ChangeAuditor

Last Updated on 23 Nov. 2006, Company: Business Intelligence 101

ChangeAuditor tracks your critical Active Directory, File Server, and Exchange configuration changes. ChangeAuditor helps you to understand exactly what type of change occurred and the most critical details about each change. ChangeAuditor identifies changes (OUs, Users, Computers, Groups, GPO, Domains and DNS) as they occur and provides the "5 Ws" for each change. Who made the change, What the change was, including new and previous values, When the change was made, Where the change was made, Why the change was made.

    ChangeAuditor or Active Directory

Good out-of-the-box functionality and user friendly console. ChangeAuditor for Active Directory would be a useful tool in tracking approved, and unapproved, changes to an active directory.

    Problem encountered

Change Auditor uses WMI. There is a hotfix from MS to fix the memory leak of WMI if you have the agent running on a dual processsor Windows 2000 machine. Our AD hung due to this memeory leak problem.

    Life is a little easier

This program is letting us appear to be on the ball with system lockouts which seem like hourly occurances. We are getting the alerts and able to place the call usually BEFORE the user is able to pickup the phone and track someone down to unlock them. Seems like a little thing but when our president comes in at 5:45 am on a Monday morning, and I can get a message on my cell phone that he's locked himself out and then get in remotely unlock his account, reset his password and call him by 6am, it makes for a much happier president. A couple of months back, we had auditors come in. I was able to show them what we had for audit trails on the Network and the emails that we were getting as soon as changes occured. The auditors dropped two pages of audit questions as ChangeAuditor was dealing with them automatically.

Thanks for the help, its made life a little easier for us.
