One of the most important things you can do to protect yourself is to keep your system software up to date. Redhat is very good about providing upgrades to packages when security flaws have been discovered. It's good to get into the habit of checking their errata area fairly frequently. Another good habit is to periodically check out the CERT and COAST security sites.
