During installation Red Hat 6.0 will let you implement shadow passwords, and MD5 passwords, by default both are enabled and leaving them enabled is a very good idea. You should upgrade the kernel Red Hat 6.0 ships with as it suffers from a nasty denial of service attack (icmp based).
