Location-Based Authentication: Grounding Cyberspace for Better Security

This paper shows how computer and network security can be substantially improved through a new form of authentication based on geodetic location. Location-based authentication has the effect of grounding cyberspace in the physical world so that the physical locations of network entities can be reliably determined. With location-based controls, a hacker in Russia would be unable to log into a funds transfer system in the United States while pretending to come from a bank in Argentina.
